New recording scheme for heleomyzid flies

Last year the Dipterists Forum Bulletin reported on a new study group for flies in family Heleomyzidae, sometimes known as "spiny-winged flies" thanks to the prominent spines on the wing edge (costa) of many of the species. The study group has quickly evolved into a new recording scheme, led by Ian Andrews. The scheme is already active in verifying records on iRecord and providing identification assistance via Facebook and Twitter, and a new key is being developed by Duncan Sivell and Alan Stubbs.

A great time to take an interest in this intriguing family of 56 species (with a bonus of 5 Trixoscelididae species included as well)!
